ABSTRACT
<em>Betula uber</em> (Ashe) Fernald, unknown as a living plant for over 60 years and thought to be extinct, has been rediscovered in Smyth County, Virginia. It is represented by one known population consisting of 12 mature trees, one sapling, and 21 seedlings. Details relative to its history, rediscovery, habit, habitat, and common name are given.
