The first extensive list of bryophytes in Tennessee was published by the senior author (1939), to which subsequently were added additional species and distribution records by Sharp (1942, 1944), and Clebsch (1954).
Below are interesting, or new state records (marked with an asterisk *), and new county records of bryophytes in the state. The mosses are arranged more or less according to the latest checklist (Crum, Steere, and Anderson, 1965). The hepatics are listed alphabetically. The counties indicated are in addition to those previously listed for the species in Tennessee.
