Orchidaceae of Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia

Orchids are always a fascinating group of plants to study. However, all our native species in Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia are terrestrial, growing in various habitats as in woodlands, pinewoods or bogs, along seepage banks and streams, and a few in old fields. Except for the cypripediums and the habenarias, most of our orchids are not very showy and most people do not realize we have forty-six species and varieties in our region.
