In the “Flora of West Virginia,” Part I, Second Edition (1970), Strausbaugh and Core list 95 species of Carex for the state. During the past year the author has made a study of the specimens of the genus in the West Virginia University Herbarium and several species new to the state have been detected. A total of nine new species have been added to the catalogue of species of the state. The author is in debted to Dr. Earl L. Core who guided the study and to Dr. F. J. Hermann who identified and verified some specimens.
