Book Review: Woody Plants of the Southeastern United States: a Winter Guide

This is a wonderful new book for those who love woody plants. It is unique in two ways, I think, in that it covers the entire Southeast and it deals with the winter condition. Previous great books covered only portions of the range, such as Brown and Kirkman’s Trees of Georgia, Godfrey’s Woody Plants of northern Florida, and Wofford’s Woody Plants of Tennessee. Lance’s new book is also special in that it deals with twig characters-his makes it especially useful in conjunction with other books in broadening one’s ability to differentiate woody plants throughout the year.
