Book Review: Hortulus

The Hunt Botanical Library has performed a valuable service to the world of botany and belles-lettres through its facsimile edition of Strabo’s Hortulus, with a transcription and translation. Strabo was a Benedictine monk born in 809 in what is now Swabia. He was the tutor of the prince Charles, son of Emperor Louis, grandson of Charlemagne, and was later abbot of Reichenau. He died in 849.
