Orobanche ramosa L. (Orobanchaceae) is a well known, often devastating root parasite on such important crops as tomato, tobacco, potatoes and eggplant as well as a diversity of other plants (Musselman and Nixon 1981). A recent survey (Musselman, unpublished) based on field and herbarium research turned up only two extant populations in the United States. One is a well known and well studied infestation on tomatoes in California, the other a recently discovered population in Karnes County, Texas (Musselman and Nixon 1981).
