Ruellia Purshiana Fernald (1945) is a morphologically distinct plant of the Appalachian region from Maryland to Georgia and Alabama, and locally in the Piedmont of Virginia and the Carolinas. It occurs in a variety of acid to circumneutral habitats at low elevations.
