The very little previous work in the Virginia Piedmont, and apparent distributional gaps in our knowledge of the state flora, suggest a need for concentrated floristic study of that region. Intensive collecting at specific locations in Bedford, Campbell, Franklin, Halifax and Pittsylvania counties during the summer of 1966 yielded many interesting finds. Unusual distributional characteristics were observed for several taxa and range extensions were recorded. Specimens of each taxon were placed in the Lynchburg College Herbarium.
