Nearly universal agreement exists among all recent authors that the full and proper designation of the scientific name of that diminutive winter annual (whose early history and distribution are the subjects of a recent paper in this journal, Ward and Gholson 1987) should be Lepuropetalon spathulatum (Muhl.) Eli. A sampling of regional floras, national checklists and major papers of the past four decades dealing with this usually overlooked species turned up only one exception.
