The Asclepiadaceae consist of three genera in Virginia: Asclepias—13 species, 2 subspecies; Cynanchum—1 species; and Matelea—4 species. Distribution maps, based on herbarium specimens and personal collections, are included. A new key is presented which utilizes floral, fruiting, and vegetative characters.
