The 17,000 acre Belle W. Baruch Foundation Plantation of Georgetown County, South Carolina contains fourteen distinct soil series ranging from salt marsh and fresh water marshes to dry sandhills. The vegetation was found to be significantly different on the ten major soil types which comprise 90% of the area. On four hundred-fifty samples studied, 577 species of vascular plants were recorded comprising 297 genera and 113 families.
