Following the discovery of Fimbristylis perpusilla Harper along the Waccamaw River in northeast South Carolina and subsequent publication of this occurrence [C a s t a n e a 46: 235-236 (1981)], a brief survey was conducted at selected sites downstream in Horry County, South Carolina and upstream in Brunswick and Columbus counties, North Carolina. In the summer of 1983, thousands of Fimbristylis perpusilla plants were found along the shore of the river, on silty sandbars, and in dried-out backwater sloughs downstream from the original South Carolina station near highway SC 9.
