The sedge, Carex trichocarpa Muhl. was collected in West Virginia for the first time on June 3, 1959. This station, in a wet meadow near Dunmore, Pocahontas County, was at the time the southernmost known extension of the range of this plant, although it has since been reported from North Carolina.
