During the work on the vascular flora of Tennessee, much of it subsidized by the National Science Foundation, a preliminary checklist was prepared which included many species which had not been reported from Tennessee either in manuals or other literature. Some of the more important of these species, as well as others which are of interest, are placed in the annotated list below. The organization and nomenclature essentially follow Fernald (1950).
