R. Keener 5598 with W. K. Webb (UWAL, duplicates to be distributed). Covington County: collected 3.1 air km WNW of Carolina, along private unmarked road ca. 1.3 km S of jct. with Co. Rd. 31 at Salem Church; ; 18 October 2009, B. R. Keener 5654 with W. K. Webb (UWAL, duplicates to be distributed). Monroe County: collected 10.5 air km SW of Vredenburgh, just E of unmarked road ca. 2.2 km N of jct. with River Ridge Road; ; 18 October 2009, B. R. Keener 5642 with W. K. Webb (UWAL, duplicates to be distributed). Significance. These collections represent the first report of this taxon from Alabama thus terminating endemic status in Mississippi. The distinctive Hamamelis ovalis is a species relatively new to science only being described in 2006 (Leonard).
