The President’s Message

1997, the sixty-first year of the Southern Appalachian Botanical Society, has been a good one for the Society. The annual Spring meeting, in conjunction with the Association of Southeastern Biologists, was well attended and well run. It was held in Greenville, South Carolina and hosted by Furman University. The meeting hotel was located in a newly redeveloped area of Greenville that is keyed for the tourists. It has art galleries, gift shops, and numerous restaurants. There were even a couple of micro-breweries that proved to be popular with some of our members. A pre-“War Between the States” cemetery was located a block from the hotel and attracted some of the members during downtime.
